Asa: Holder OK with me for AG
There appear to be some questions surrounding this Eric Holder fellow, President-Elect Barack Obama’s pick to serve as U.S. attorney general, about something he may have done back in the Clinton administration. Or maybe it was something he didn’t do, I wasn’t really paying attention when I scanned the article at the link. Wow, if Arkansas Project reporting gets any more vigorous, I’ll be putting all those Arkansas Democrat-Gazette whiz kids out of a job.
Anyway, I only point to this because it includes some testimony from Arkansas’ own Asa Hutchinson, who’s risen up to defend Holder against these accusations, whatever they may be, and to pronounce him a “good fella” in the Cosa Nostra world of Washington D.C. power lawyers:
Meanwhile, Holder continues to receive support from prominent Republican lawyer-politicians. Former Sen. John Danforth (R-Mo.) and former Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R-Ark.) joined Leahy in the conference call to vouch for Holder’s independence and judgment as deputy attorney general.“There’s a unique perspective that comes from being a part of that Justice Department family,” said Hutchinson, a partner at Venable and a former U.S. attorney. “He will be able to create an atmosphere of independence and integrity throughout the department. Leadership starts at the top, and that will carry down through the career attorneys in the department.”
