There are quite a few bills that freedom lovers should be following today at the Capitol.
State Rep. Richard Womack has a new “Right To An Honest Living” bill that would help get Arkansas’s out-of-control occupational regulation under control. Womack has made a few technical changes to his original proposal: for instance, the new version contains a two-year sunset clause. It’ll be considered in House Public Health, Welfare and Safety at 10 a.m.
Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson’s “Wine Freedom” bill would, among other things, allow for more wine choices in supermarkets. This is a relatively minor change in the law: it doesn’t affect dry counties, only wet ones. It’s up for consideration in the Senate State Agencies committee at 10 a.m.
HB 1669 by Womack is also up for consideration in the Senate State Agencies committee. This bill would guarantee citizens the right to record or photograph public events without being hassled by government employees. The bill has already passed the House.
This afternoon, the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider Sen. Alan Clark’s SB 805. The bill would reform Arkansas’s civil asset forfeiture laws to ensure that citizens won’t be forced to forfeit their property to the state without a guilty verdict or similar finding.
