HOLMES ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT 66
Local Attorney Kevin R. Holmes has announced his intention to run for State Representative, District 66, which is being vacated by Representative Rick Green due to term limits. Holmes, a Van Buren native, will be vacating his position on the Crawford County Quorum Court where he has severed two terms.
“I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Quorum Court for the past three years, and I’ve enjoyed seeing the legislative process work on the County level. I think my experience on the Quorum Court and my education and work experience as an attorney will be a good fit for the State Legislature,” Holmes said. “My core beliefs are that the government should be less involved in people’s daily lives. As an attorney and small business owner, I see first hand the effect high taxes have on our families and I will continue my fight to keep taxes low. I plan to do my best to make sure that Crawford County is on the cutting edge of economic development and look forward to continuing the efforts of our federal and state delegation, and everyone else involved in the creation of an intermodal system for our region. The intermodal system is vital to our continued economic development and could bring hundreds of jobs to our region. Smaller government, lower taxes, and more jobs, those are the commitments I’ve fought for on the Quorum Court and will strive to achieve while in the State Legislature,” Holmes added.
Mr. Holmes is a graduate of Van Buren High School where he was involved in various organizations and served as Student Body President. Mr. Holmes has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas. Mr. Holmes is a founding member of Hopkins & Holmes, Attorneys at Law, PLLC, and is married to his wife, Shannon, and they have two children, Gracie and Reagan.
As an attorney, Holmes’ focuses his practice on civil litigation, employment discrimination representation, consumer protection law, collection law, family law, and social security disability. He is a member of the Crawford County Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association, and the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association.
Kevin is a 2005 graduate of the Leadership Crawford County program, and was elected by his peers to serve as a board member and ambassador. “Leadership Crawford County is one of the best resources Crawford County has to offer. I have lived in Crawford County my entire life, and I still learned so much about the community, and met some incredible people. Based on my experiences in Leadership Crawford County, the future of Crawford County is very bright,” Holmes said.
In addition to these duties, he is a member of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, a former board member for the Alma Chamber of Commerce, and is a graduate of the Van Buren Police Academy. Holmes has also served as deputy city attorney for the City of Van Buren, and the City of Kibler, and is currently the Chairman of the Personnel and Policy Committee of the Crawford County Quorum Court.
Holmes is running as a Republican.
